This lecture considers the nuance, detail, and scope that has often been ignored or flattened in foundational yoga education. This free two-hour starter session is for every student and teacher. If you’re new, this will offer a primer and a lay-of-the-land that will situate you and start you off on the right foot. If you’re an experienced practitioner or teacher, this will fortify your foundation with specificity and precision. I always address texts and contexts: I will give a thorough overview of yoga history insofar as it shapes the outline of yoga philosophy, and introduce texts and their concepts from the literal place of translation and tradition and then their applications in modern day practice. My work focuses on yoga philosophy in a way that is accessible but undiluted, and I plan to do the same in this introduction.
Why me? I hold a Master’s Degree in Religion with a concentration in Indian Philosophy, Sanskrit, and Yoga under the advisement of Dr. Edwin Bryant. I am a 4th year PhD candidate in Religion concentrating on Hinduism under Dr. Vasudha Narayanan, and my doctoral dissertation is on Yoga. I am a 500 hour trained yoga teacher, 800 hour trained yoga therapist with 15 years experience.
Tuesday, July 28th from 6:30-8:30pm EDT
