Yama & Niyama: The Backbone of Yogic Living

  • Confluence Arts Center 20159 Hazelnut Ridge Road Scotts Mills, Oregon, 97375 United States (map)

This day-long retreat is a primer on the first two limbs of yoga, yama and niyama, the restraints and observances that make off-the-mat yogic living possible. There are five yama, and five niyama, and while each could be the subject of its own workshop (stay tuned), this is an in-depth overview and introduction to the ecosystem of yama and niyama in their relation to each other, to the practice of yoga, and a yogic life in the world. They're often thought of as ethical precepts, and this retreat explores how they can be implemented in our lives like banks on a river so we can flow forward in the direction of practice and towards who we are becoming because of it.

Includes tea, coffee, morning snacks, a full local and organic veg/vegan lunch, and a printed handout “presentation” to follow along with the lecture. The day will include active postural practice (with meditation and pranayama included), lecture, and discussion.

Registration coming soon.
