Turning Towards The Light: A Winter Solstice Retreat at Metta Earth | Lincoln, VT Fri, December 19th- Sun, December 21st
Winter solstice marks the darkest night, but thereafter we turn towards the light. It is from the longing to be of service and offer yoga from a place of peace bringing, resilience training, and community gathering that Gillian, co-director of Metta Earth, and I dreamed up this retreat. It is a bit different than our usual offerings- there will be a core crew of retreaters, with some events open to the greater Metta Earth community.
Included: yoga practices each day taught toward the theme—three meals a day, plus juice, tea, and coffee before morning practice; deep nourishment from the earth and her bounty from the past growing season (all meals are organic and as local as possible, much—and sometimes almost all—from the land at Metta Earth)—contemplative guided forest walk—a big bonfire to bring in the light—roasting in the new Metta Earth sauna (!)—a multi-course farm-to-table dinner (open to the public for an extra charge, included in the retreat cost)—a community ‘spiral of light,’ a Metta Earth solstice favorite in which, just after sunset, as darkness begins to fall, we walk in a spiral of Metta Earth balsam boughs to the center of the spiral to light a candle to honor the earth and emergence of light—plentiful tea, nooks to cozy up in, time for contemplation and community.

Yoga for Difficult Times @ Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health | Stockbridge, MA Fri, January 23rd - Sun, January 25th
Difficult times are an inherent part of human life, and yoga uniquely prepares us to meet them with skill and presence. This retreat offers a container to revitalize and recover, as well as equip you with tools and techniques from yoga practice to face the challenges of life. You will leave feeling bolstered and fortified in light of whatever difficulties you're facing—personally and globally—with tools and techniques from yoga practice to live fully even in their midst.
The weekend will include posture (asana), breath (pranayama), and meditation practice with plentiful modifications to accommodate all needs; lecture and discussion of pertinent yoga philosophical concepts with concrete applications; and community connection. We will discuss how these practices and precepts correlate with the nervous system and directly impact physiology to shift from a sympathetic to ventral vagal nervous system response.
“Whenever you are in doubt, it is best to pause. Few things are so pressing that they cannot wait for a moment of breath.”
— T.K.V. Desikachar, The Heart of Yoga
